Chocolate Covered Peeps Treat (Print Version)

Marshmallow Peeps enveloped in rich chocolate and optional decorations for a fun treat.

# What You Need:

→ Marshmallow

01 - 12 Peeps marshmallow candies, any shape or color

→ Chocolate Coating

02 - 7 oz semisweet or milk chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
03 - 1 tbsp coconut oil or vegetable shortening, optional for smoother coating

→ Decorations

04 - Sprinkles, crushed nuts, or colored sugar as desired

# How To Make:

01 - Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper and set aside for dipped candies.
02 - Combine chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each interval, until completely melted and smooth. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler over simmering water.
03 - Insert a skewer or toothpick into the base of each Peep candy to create a handle for easier dipping.
04 - Dip each Peep into the melted chocolate, turning to ensure complete coverage. Lift and allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
05 - Place coated Peeps on the prepared baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with decorations while chocolate is still wet, if desired.
06 - Allow chocolate to harden at room temperature for approximately 30 minutes, or refrigerate for 10 to 15 minutes until firm.
07 - Remove skewers or toothpicks carefully. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Takes a nostalgic childhood candy and transforms it into something surprisingly sophisticated
  • The crunch of chocolate against fluffy marshmallow creates the most satisfying texture contrast
  • Endlessly customizable for any holiday or celebration theme
02 -
  • Even a tiny drop of water will seize your chocolate, so make sure all bowls and utensils are completely dry
  • The coconut oil is optional but makes such a huge difference in the final texture that I never skip it anymore
03 -
  • Work in small batches of four to six Peeps at a time to keep the chocolate at the perfect consistency
  • If using white chocolate, add a drop of food coloring to the coating itself for a custom pastel effect
